You are basing your argument on an usual year when we have basically had an NFL quarterback dropping dimes all year. In any other season the SEC is a dog fight until the clocks are at 0:00

In 2016 Clemson beat Alabama (35-31) to win the national championship with Deshaun Watson. That same Alabama team came to the real death valley and struggled to beat a 5-2 LSU team (10-0) scoring a final touchdown late in the fourth quarter. It was a 3-0 game late. That is about the proof you need to let you know that not every SEC playoff team rests players in the 4th quarter of games. This year's LSU team is just stacked and the best offense ever in the SEC.
