To be fair.
Star Wars got Rogue one and a whole trilogy about Rey.
Wonder Woman has 2 movies, 2 ensembles.
Captain Marvel has one movie, 1 ensemble and a hook to keep on in the franchise that isn't stopping.
Underworld got 3 or 4 movies before movies before action girls became girl power movie statements.
Terminator had a 2, 3(to a lesser action degree but still smart as hell), Genesys, and Dark Fate with females leads co-leads.
Harley Quinn was a big draw for Suicide Squad. Has BOP and SS2 in the pipe.
And if we start including TV shows we get way more female action leads and stories.
It's not like there's a dearth of female led media. It's just for the most part the audience doesn't receive it well by either not paying for it or not liking that they paid for it.
Which is why for all the franchises listed above there's a shitload of one offs that were either eh okay or flops.
ETA: And the first 2 Charlie's Angels were fun.
