It almost happened in Kentucky after the Bluegrass Miracle. Security was overwhelmed with the KY fans who had stormed the field and were already in the act of tearing down the goalposts at the other end of the field. The TD was scored directly in front of the LSU fans, many of whom stormed the field in drunken elation. Several started to climb the goalposts, but they were really too drunk to cause any harm. Instead, they left the stadium with a patch of field grass in their mouth. Grown men were eating grass. Might be where Miles got the idea.

IIRC, it did happen but Kentucky fans pulled down the goal posts before realizing that they lost.

First time in history goal posts came down after a loss.
