There has always been a human element involved. In the BCS, the AP was 1/3 of the vote and coaches were another 1/3.

How the hell anyone thought giving coaches on active teams a vote in the fate of where teams end up was a good idea is beyond me. It is well documented that Saban voted Okie St. lower on his ballot in 2011 than anyone else and put Bama higher to get his team in.
