Just my two cents but if you are wanting there to be a clean timeline character plot throughout this series that follows the other Clancy books it will never happen. Due in part to changing times and events, changes, some major will have to be made so that you get maximum impact.
I think of these stories like James Bond in the movies not really following a consistent time or plot line like Flemming wrote in the books. But it's still damn fun if you don't get bogged down in the minutia.

I get it and it's why it's not a major complaint for me. The Jack Ryan I knew was a guy who was a marine for a few months before a helicopter crash ruined his back. I think that's where he met his wife.
He wasn't a super soldier. Just a guy who is very smart and willing to do the right thing in every situation no matter the cost. At times he got into some shite, but not to the level of storming a presidential palace and taking down dozens of soldiers with one shot head shots on the run.
What I love about the Ryan books is the whole universe of characters that work with Ryan. Sometimes he's the center of the action, many times he's ultimately the planner.
The show is great on it's own so I'm not really complaining. Just a little bit of me wishing more adaptions would be more faithful to the originals.
