Great story! At the time we started to adopt in 2004, the Russians had clamped down on it and made it extremely difficult for foreigners, especially Americans, to adopt and take an infant out of the country.
So, in 2005, we settled on adopting from out of China, and signed with an agency in Austin.
3 days after sending them $4000 for our initial deposit, I was at a defense industry conference in San Diego. My wife called, said she had some news and I should probably sit down for it.
Shocked, I sat down and thought immediately that is was terrible news. What she told me changed our lives, as she had gone to her doctor the day before I left and taken blood and urine tests for what she thought might be a health issue. I was sitting there thinking she was called to tell me she had received a prognosis of dire medical condition. The doctor had called her to give her the results.
Turned out she was carrying our child, my son, who is now 13 years old. It was like a bolt of lightening had struck, I was so shocked. We had tried for five years and had all sorts of treatments, fertilization efforts and it was just rejection after rejection after rejection.
We decided not to continue with the adoption process, as the pregnancy was precarious to begin with (he was born seven weeks premature) but looking back, wish we'd continued with it and had two boys to be together.
Tip of the hat to you and yours and for taking another into your lives.

Such a blessing! So happy it worked out for your family.

Is it too hard to adopt an American child?
