In junior high I got a charley horse and when I got home my great grandmother was at my house.
She saw me limping and told my mom to go get the witch hazel and put it on my thigh. Mom said she didn't have any witch hazel and maw maw just shook her head.

Worked with an old coach who swore that putting a bar of soap under his mattress stopped his charley horses.
Woke up with one in the middle of the night and when he checked, the soap had fallen out. HE put it back and had no issues.
