Taking my grandson for our first trip to grand isle on his 7th birthday this coming weekend. I haven't fished or crabbed anywhere except hackberry, and that was 20 years ago.

I'd appreciate some tested tips, for anything such as bait and equipment, tides and production, depth and time of day, etc. We'll be staying at water's edge, so will be able to walk right to the surf.

Thanks in advance!

Damn you're up late for a grandpa
Kidding

It's towards the end of the trout bite in the surf but there's still fish to be caught. Have to be there at daylight. Live shrimp will definitely help. You'll have a lot of trash fish this time of year but you'll get bites which will be fun for your grandson.
I'd recommend driving to elmers to do your fishing in the surf

As far as crabs; this year has been terrible for me, but that doesn't mean next weekend won't be awesome. A line with several drop lines off of it, turkey necks or the leftovers of your cleaned fish

Wrapping up Grand Isle day 1, and there won't be a day two. Zero fish and 1 crab since 4am.
