You sure that he didn't break his ankle when he tripped over the curb and said, "y'all ready to bust some arse!!"? Tidbit: he is wearing Chucks in that opening scene but wearing boots right afterwards and for the rest of the movie.
He no doubt busts his ankle with the paddle. I'm wondering if that is why he is wearing Chucks. Maybe that scene was shot after the paddle busting.
