ETA: that didn't fix the issue. Now I'm pretty certain it's a bad power supply. Must have gotten fried or something. Not that old and its a good quality one.

I had the same issue, thinking the chip paste dried up or something, or maybe the fan wasn't turning fast enough. My computer expert brother told me to replaced the power supply. Fixed it.
