Had some friends in high school who had relatives in Durango, CO & Hilton Head, SC. Was fortunate to travel to these places quite a bit and it was really an eye opener to cultures outside Louisiana that appealed to me.
I enjoyed going back to visit the 1st 10-15 years after I left, but now the area I grew up in just seems sad. Can’t speak for north LA, but South La almost feels like it still hasn’t recovered after Katrina and they are just trying to create a livable pocket here and there around the turmoil. Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes need so much infrastructure it’s comical, and the representation they have to accomplish those needs are borderline retarded and absolutely self serving. I’m pulling for the state to succeed, but if I’m a gambling man I’d bet the under.
