Still doesn't stop facts and logical thinking. Many people do act based on their feelings. That doesn't make it wrong or right. When you can take emotion out of the argument, it makes things easier. Easier said than done, I know.

Facts and reason are very potent, I've recently heard someone propose that much of the west's success is based on developing and adopting a systematic approach for finding truth. Basically the scientific method.

I don't know if that's really the reason for this period of relative success, but it seems plausible. I think it's important to note that facts and logic are not enough in and of themselves.
