Former Vikings’ G Nick Easton is signing a four-year, $24 million deal with the Saints, per source.
The New Orleans Saints are in a tight spot at center. Max Unger retired after ten seasons in the NFL, four of them in New Orleans. His backups, Cameron Tom and Will Clapp, don’t have strong resumes to replace him. The free agent market isn’t very strong, and while this is a great draft class for centers, the Saints may have bigger fish to fry with just one draft pick in the first four rounds. The good news is that they’re a finalist for the services of Minnesota Vikings starter Nick Easton.
Easton met with the Saints shortly after the free agency signing period kicked off. Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported that Easton counts the Saints among his top options, along with the Vikings and an unnamed third team. His decision is expected to be made by Monday, March 18. Easton started the 2017 season at left guard for Minnesota, but has NFL experience both at right guard and, crucially, center. He missed the 2018 season with a neck injury but must have passed any tests teams put him through, with three different franchises waiting on his response.
