This man says the UK player did nothing ilegal

LINK In his article he gives an incomplete description of basket interference and goal tending and he says the UK player hitting the rim with the shot in the air was legal. What do you say. I looked up the rules and it clearly states a player cannot come in contact with the rim when the ball is using the rim as it's lower base. I've just never in my life heard of anyone saying you can legally grab the rim when a shot is in the air. I'm sure if it was legal the NBA and college players would be doing it all the time.
