I haven’t really started the editing side yet...very new hobby. Still focusing on learning the intricacies of framing good shots and learning the technical aspects of my camera, lenses, aperture, ISO, light, etc... Been trying to get as much free advise from YouTube and the internet as my free time allows. Thinking about signing up for some classes though.
Do you shoot in RAW?
you and shooting in RAW. Ha. Just messin.
RAW editing is way down the road for him I would think. As he learns. Get him out of AUTO first, and into Program mode, which is a good training wheels. BUT taking a shot of what he likes in RAW to have it to tinker with later is good. Also, to not lose that pic. Otherwise he'll have a bunch of MCs.

I've never shot in JPEG. Always RAW. The final products may not necessarily always be that different but at least I have total control of the entire image.
To me, much of the interest comes from editing. Composition comes naturally after a short while.
