Guy on Facebook marketplace in Holden la has a Suzuki 250 that looks brand new for $800.
That's a fine machine in your size range for $800.
As for the 250 I'm looking for one for my wife and daughter. They are plenty big enough but lightweight.
The o ly concern I've seen is loading them in the back of a truck. The light front end can get squirrelly going up the ramps and want to flip backward.
If you trailer your bikes no worries.

A 250 sized atv is right up a teens alley. I had a Yamaha 250 2x4 and went through more places than guys with the big 4x4’s did. Pulled them out many times. Light and east to get unstuck.
My dad still has it and my boys will have it when they are of age.
