Personally I don't understand the fascination with his association with LSU which amounted to dropping by for a cup of coffee. I don't think he gives much thought to being at LSU or identifies as being a Tiger.
LSU was a marginal team during his year and would have been awful without him but so what?
There is no halo effect from Simmons year in Baton Rouge. It didn't raise the stature of the program.
He's a rare talent. Agreed

I think you hit the nail on the head of why many LSU fans don't like him. Pretty sure Simmons doesn't give a flying frick about LSU so why should we care about him? He would have never come to LSU had he been able to go pro. And when he did come to LSU, I heard he hated it. Has he ever been back?
And no he did not turn the program around.
