Attacking players for looking out for their futures is bullshite.

Yes, as a fan, I would like to see them play, but they are not LSU's indentured servants.

what impact do you suppose this would have on recruiting?

Why must we add all these histrionics?

The players care about this game as much as they care about Rice. They're more excited about bowl gifts than anything else.

Do they want to win? Sure. Are they treating it as if they're on some kind of mission? No, absolutely not.

This is basically where I come down.

Seems there are a lot of really selfish fans calling Greedy selfish. I'd venture a guess that 99.99% of them have never had .001% of the amount of pressure on their shoulders that Greedy does now.

I dont have a problem with transfers. Opting out of games when healthy doesn't sit right with me.

Why not look at changing the wording in the scholarship and have it read that if you choose to skip the bowl game then you have to repay the value of the scholarship for that year

Jesus Christ this topic has jumped the shark.

How about opting out of an entire season? Devin White is going to leave an entire season of eligibility on the table. Does he not care about his teammates? Is he selfish?

In my opinion, it would need to be a policy that all schools adopt.

I had no idea you had a pipeline into the mindset of the team. Since you put it that way we shouldn't play the game at all.

Why didn't the team care about playing RICE? First I have heard of that too.

Thanks for the report of the mindset of the team.

I think the players understand that this game can set the trajectory into next season and help define the turnaround of the program by playing in their first New Years 6 bowl since 1-9-12.. Hopefully the coaches echo this sentiment.

Why shouldn't it be played? My point is that the players simply do not treat this game like a regular game whatsoever. They treat it like the lagniappe that it is. That's a fact. Anyone that has any contact with current and former players would tell you the same.

Are you fricking kidding me? You know how many of us would die to be gifted athletically to the point of being able to make a living (to the tune of millions) by playing a sport at the professional level?

Meanwhile, all us swinging dicks have to deal with pressures of the real world making peanuts compared to what Greedy Williams will be making. And we have to show up every day and work for a living to support our families. There's a little more to our lives than simply playing a sport at the upper teens/early 20's.

I would like to see Greedy Williams deal with the pressure that most of us have to deal with. Then get back to me about who has to deal with more.

I know several former players who were not getting drafted that were absolutely thrilled to be playing a bowl game since it meant they got to play football one more time.

Ironic username, being as you have no clue of the reality of Greedy's life and the pressure he has to succeed and help his family.

Yeah, it's lagniappe. They don't practice with the same intensity as they do the regular season. They get to go home for a few days over the break. It's a post season exhibition.

A coaching staff can try to turn it into a jumping off point for the next season - and I don't disagree with that strategy - but the fact of the matter is that the players take it far less seriously than the regular season. The enjoy the hell out of the experience, don't get me wrong, but they're not nearly as committed as fans like to believe.

I don’t understand knocking a guy who has the chance to better himself and set up his family for a generation..
PLUS what college Student WITH a young Daughter wouldn’t jump at a chance to make his and her life immediately better. All the butthurt is unnecessary, this guy is taking advantage of an opportunity that has paid off DUE TO the hard work, blood, sweat, and tears that he has put in to be in this position. Don’t be jealous that you have to sit in a desk everyday.
And to say he doesn’t deal with REAL WORLD stress is short sighted. He’s raising a kid while in college, while playing football and going to school. People’s problems are different, doesn’t mean they’re any less or greater than yours.

It is always a personal decision. Each player has a different situation. If Greedy wants to sit out the bowl and go pro, that is fine with me. If Devin White wants to play in the bowl, that is his decision and I would love it.
