m not suggesting that we should have open borders, but that the US is doing really well along multiple metrics. The major issues to fix are healthcare and the debt, but I see lots of positives going forward.
I see almost no positives in allowing Somalis to move to northern US, establish almost completely isolated political strongholds at the expense of taxpayers and the debt burden, then allowing them to elect representatives that have represent social and political norms that are almost entirely alien to those who've paid for their presence in this country to begin with.
Economic numbers going up is not a great indicator of health in our society and under the current system. At some point, pumping these people in will be like pumping the chest of a 95 year old heart attack victim. Your moving the blood around, but there is no life left.
In a more natural immigration context, I'd have virtually no problem with Somalis trying to move to the US. the natural screening processes of the market are completely obliterated by the massive hand of the federal government as it is, therefore we need far more restrictive policies.

I don't think they are that monolithic. There are only 130,000 Somalis in the US as a whole, with 80,000 of them in Minnesota. Out of that group, there is an alarming number who've returned to Somalia and reached high positions. There are even Somali Republicans, like Sadik Warfa.

I think we need more restrictive policies due to the coming fiscal issues, which means less monies available to help these groups of people settle. I'm much more optimistic than you are on how well these people can integrate though.
Again, I think you'd find a surprising amount of support for more restrictive immigration policies among immigrants, as I think you've mentioned. I think they are a group for Republicans to win by focusing on the economic aspects of what is going to come if we don't do something about it now.
