I feel like most singular moments that are in the history books are things I would rather not see, like the start of war, murder, and other atrocity.

I would probably want to either see the big bang, or Jesus's birth. Settle some big theory once and for all.

Otherwise

- Jurrasic period overlooking a valley chock full of various dinosaur species
- The signing of the Declaration of Independence
- Times Square on V-Day
- Pompeii before Vesuvius blew (just to get the before and after)

that's a pretty good choice, you'd get to see ancient Roman culture and an in-tact city, along with a massive natural event.
