You also shave two hours going from Seattle to Portland by living outside Tacoma, I've noticed. I sneak onto I-5 south of JBLM and can make good time to Portland. Seattle to Portland is terrible because of the hellish drive to JBLM, at certain times of day.

The back way through Steilacoom? We always go that way.
