I don't think he's had a season as good as what Griffey did from 1996-1999 either and arguably his strike shortened 1994 season or his 1993 season.

Ken Griffey Jr. was worth 6.6 WAR in 1998 and 4.9 WAR in 1999. Mike Trout would have to miss half a season to only put up 4.9 WAR.

By wRC+ (which puts a hitter relative to league average and accounts for ballparks and eras), Mike Trout's worst hitting season is better than Ken Griffey Jr.'s best (excluding Mike Trout's initial call-up in 2011.) Ken Griffey Jr was great and fun and everyone loved him, but Mike Trout is better than him.
