It is crazy to think that in 1994 Louisiana had Peyton Manning and Josh Booty as high school QB prospects. And LSU's coach at the time? Curley Hallman. No wonder we got neither of them (at the time). You hire Kmart coaches, you get Kmart results.

Peyton Manning never would have come to LSU. The only reason he didn't go to Ole Miss was because they were on probation. As to Booty in 1994, not much you can do when a high school kid is offered the biggest rookie signing bonus in MLB history.

Dude could not hit professional pitching--it was in his contract to get called up to the majors every September and he always went up. He was told every year to stay down and get his at bats but he never would...he wanted to live the MLB life but not pay the price

According to Peyton himself in The Book of Manning, he "probably" would have gone to Ole Miss if Cooper had not gotten ill. But I think that is just him being nice. There was never any chance he was going to Oxford. He was looking for an elite program where he could run a pro style offense to get ready for the NFL. It was very much a business decision for him, and had LSU been that type of program at the time, I think he would have at least considered it.

But anyway, we had Curley Hallman and had just gone 5-6.
