If it has a mercury switch it would take the package being tipped over on its side to set it off. Maybe one box got flipped on the conveyor belt at the sorting facility. They said it went off while on a conveyor belt.

That seems like an exceptionally risky (and inefficient) way to blow things up via the shipping of packages. I mean.....have you ever spent any time in a FedEX or UPS sorting facility watching them load packages onto trucks? I fully expect every package I ever drop off to be involved in a game of "cardboard box kickball" at some point during its journey.

Surely this guy used something else...?
