While I don't disagree with that - MTB is first and foremost a rock band, with strong country and blues sensibilities - which are the defining features of Southern Rock.
CDB is a category all its own, IMHO.
(ETA: Of course there are many connections between these two bands, in particularly, with Charlie playing fiddle for MTB on some things and the bands shared producer/co-writer Paul Hornsby - no relation to Bruce - on a number of releases.)
