I didn’t want to have a big wedding, and I would’ve preferred to elope or do a small destination at the time.

But I have to admit, I really loved our wedding weekend. We had about 250 people, nothing too big or too fancy.

For the rehearsal dinner we had a low country boil, open bar, live music and told everyone that if you’re in town by that night you’re welcome to come.

I enjoyed that night more than the wedding reception. Probably because it was all close friends and family. There’s something special about having 90% of the people you love most in the world under one roof to celebrate with you.

It’ll probably never happen again in my lifetime.

We did a small beach destination that was within driving distance for most of our guests. Less than 30 people there(and that included us). We were in our early 30s and were paying for everything(both our parents couldn't contribute financially). We only cared about having our parents and siblings and a few close friends there.

His parents almost didn't make it to our wedding. His mom got really sick on the flight from PHX to Houston (medics had to wheel her off the plane) and had to be put up in a hotel in Houston for 2 nights and find an urgent care to prescribe her a patch so she could fly to the wedding(extreme motion sickness). They arrived 20 minutes before our ceremony started. Really put things in perspective that day for me. I didn't care what the flowers looked like, or if the cake was fine or any of that tbh. I just wanted his parents to be there cause I knew it would have really upset my husband if they weren't there.

ETA: And I wanted BOTH the wedding and marriage. Nothing wrong with that. I only plan on marrying once, why not make it a very special day.
