Licensing.
The bigger question: Why has there never been an Elric feature, animated or otherwise? Moorcock is getting pretty old - I assume his estate will definitely try to monetize, but he wanted to make a movie years ago - and he would make sure it retained the integrity.
Elric's world is a better setting for a 21st Century audience than Forgotten Realms (IMHO).
