Bingo. Just because it's valuable doesn't make it a good gift. I'm just playing devil's advocate here, but it's common in the business world to use gifts like this to basically check a box without putting in any real effort.

But giving you a Disney gift card and a Ruth's Christ gift card are two entirely different animals. The OP isn't debating whether or not a GC is a quality gift. He's asking whether a GC in this amount is reasonable or if it should have been a larger amount, considering the restaurant.

I think it's pretty similar, like nurse said if you're planning to go then great, but if you're not? The main point it isn't gonna cover the whole thing, so there's strings attached. They're small inconsequential strings, but it's Monday and I'm bored. It's to a place that the giver doesn't really know or care if the OP enjoys, but is generally assumed to be classy. The giver is likely doing this to present a certain image, but in doing so is only offering to pay for a taste.

I'm not saying OP should send the giver a hand written note with "frick you" in delicate calligraphy, I just think this should be avoided if you want the person to think you actually give a shite. It's a different discussion entirely if the OP and the giver had a previous talk about how much they both enjoy RC, or had been there together etc.
