Took me two years to get my job (no previous Federal experience and in a State I've never been too or have any contacts in)
This is about it. Most of the initial screening is done by a computer program. Make sure you hit the buzzwords in the vacancy announcement in your resume. Unless you are applying for a mass hire, i.e. Border Patrol, or something very specialized that you have the specialty, unless you are a veteran you are going to have a hard time.
