Yeah, but innovation breeds new opportunities for wealth creation and economic mobility does it not?

It does, but the world has become more competitive too. In the period following WW2, the US had a significant competitive advantage over much of the first world. We didn't get torn to shreds by the war, for one. So yeah, there are opportunities but it's much harder for the bourgeoisie than it used to be - it's more expensive to get educated, there's more overseas competition, etc
