Some really good TE's in this class. If we have to draft this kid at 27 to get him, I would pass. We need a day 1 impact player with that pick. TE's usually aren't day 1 impact guys. Takes at least 2-3 years for them to fully develop. Throw in the FCS tidbit in there, too risky for 27 and where we're at as a franchise currently. IMO.

I'm curious if we trade back to get another pick, like two second rounders if we don't have the guys we want at that position. I know this isn't our MO, but Ireland may be the wrinkle to throw this idea out there for once. With no second round pick currently, it wouldn't be the worst idea if there's no sure fire guy on the board.

I'd take him at 27 if it were guaranteed that he would be developed by his 2nd year. We should have Fleener & Hill to bridge the gap until 2019. I can definitely see your point though, b/c if he isn't ready by his 2nd year...we're going to be in a bad situation (in 2019) at the TE position. Fleener is almost certainly getting cut in 2019. Hill & Hooman (I think he's gone this year) aren't under contract for 2019 either.

The 1 thing that could save us is the fact that cutting Fleener in 2019 will save us 7.4 mil against the cap. We should be able to get a legit TE in F.A. after Fleener is let go.
