I'm about to nerd this place up, but what if the players were sorted by personality type? Different teams would cater to different fans: highly moral, or flashy, or shite-talking, or blue collar.
Maybe there's a type of Hat that could help with that, uh, Sorting.

Just lean into the anthem nonsense and make it white vs black. It would guarantee some sort of fanbase.
