Bad city blues, and Bloodstained kings by Tim Willocks are both set in and around new orleans. Crime fiction on par with Burke.
Joe r. Landsdale's Hap and Leonard series is set in south-east texas.
Also, check out Ace Atkins. Nick travers series is set all over the south, but the protag is a music professor in nola. Also, has Quinn colson series set in northern mississippi.
