This is exactly the point. They knew damn well what they were doing. It's a phony made up 'award' that exists solely as a cheap attention grab.

They knew it would get SJW panties wet and get right wingers angry.

Like most magazines, GQ has become an irrelevant rag but for a few days tons of people will bet talking about it before we move on to the next phony clickbait story.
