re: Since the topic of Coach O being a good coach won't go away, I'll throw in my 2 cents

There are 12 million reasons that disagree with that statement.
And if we had to pony up for the highest paid OC/DC tandem, was it STILL a good business move?
Yes, it is.
1. The buyout significantly drops in year 2 and year 3. It is highly unlikely any head coach at a major university is going to be fired after 1 year.
2. When you factor the buyout with what you are paying him, and then compare that to what you would have spent on a new coach (5-7 million) plus his buyout, you still likely end up better off.
3. Furthermore, even though we are paying our coordinators well, a new head coach would have still required strong coordinators themselves. So that really is a wash (considering their pay). At worst, maybe you save 500k a year between the 2.
4. And factoring in we are still paying Miles, and then what we have to pay O, it's a big win.
So, IMO, LSU made the best business move it could. If O wins 9 games this year and next (essentially equalling what Miles did his last 2 years), LSU wins big time.
And as I have stated for months, I think LSU will be a 9 win team this year and next and should trend up after that.
