Maiden
Judas Priest
Def Leppard (first 3 albums, maybe 4 - Women and Gods of War on Hysteria are great workout songs)
A lot of Queen will fit the bill - particularly 70s stuff.
Sabbath? (Ozzy's voice is definitely unusual, but you can't accuse of him of growling during the Sabbath era)
Dio (borders on growling - but I don't think he gets there - great workout stuff, too, on Holy Diver)
Krokus
Scorpions
Alice in Chains
Soundgarden (related - I workout to the first Audioslave album all the time, baw)

They fit a few of your criteria and although I'm not sure you will like them, and I'm probably thinking too far out of the box, but Coheed & Cambria was the first thing that came to my head...
although if you go to Pandora, etc and do a Rammstein or Iron Maiden channel, you'll probably discover something you like eventually
or you could always go with the fail safe
