My feelings about our technical collections are complicated. I think most are more fearful about the evolution of technology and what it means for our capabilities than they are about how it's actually employed. The government has rules and safeguards. They aren't perfectly failsafe, but they are designed to prevent the unnecessary and unauthorized collection and retention of US persons' information. My comments in this thread were generally tongue-in-cheek, though I do think most people's concerns are overblown.
