Some of the smartest people start with mentors, but there comes a point where the person evolves into the position where they no longer need that guidance day in and day out. This is called growth. If you go your whole professional career needing to be mentored then that shows you learn nothing from those interactions.

The fact that people don't understand this is mind boggling.
