What about the 10-year-old?

There's no doubt that for the most part, recreational youth leagues have gone way downhill. "Travel" ball is almost the only game in town in a lot of places. Now, you can still do travel ball without being idiotic about it or it having to be a year-round thing. Some of the people in this thread seem to have a grasp on that.

We play travel ball. But it is the same talent pool that is at the rec league. You play with a decent coach in rec, make All Stars, and you get about three tournaments in....not too bad, and your kid is guaranteed to play all over the place on the field.
