Do you think such hyperbole discredits the overall message?

Do you believe it's hyperbole?

Do you prefer it to "radio silence" on the issue?

Low-probability high-impact scenarios like the clathrate gun and ocean anoxia are an important part of the risk-avoidance case for lowering emissions. But I think it's hyperbole to talk about edge cases without identifying them as such, and if you don't, you're making the same error Al Gore did talking shite about an ice-free Arctic in 2016. It doesn't technically discredit the science at all but it gives ammunition to the professional obfuscators and makes the politics harder.
