People often talk about how the bible isn't supposed to be literal and instead it's supposed to teach values truth parable. But they seldom talk about what specific values it's supposed to teach. Most of the parables can be described as morally confused at best. My favorite example is Job, what's the lesson? Be nice to authority that mistreats you? Don't doubt God? Your neighbors are always wrong?

Keep the faith even in times of adversity.

But job lose faith and questions god, there's no repercussions, just a weird rambling explanation of how powerful God is. Go read it, there's no lesson, just things that happen.

ETA then there's Noah, no trying to save fellow men or help the wicked. Just save a few animals and keep your family dry. The lesson? Wood floats, I guess.
