Yeah I've been intending to start a thread asking about our incoming catchers but wanted to wait til the smoke/melt cleared. Can anyone give a brief breakdown of him and Doolittle?
Feduccia is the LSUE catcher, excellent behind the plate (won a JUCO gold glove) and will contend for the starting spot almost immediately as Mainieri demands his catchers be defensive minded. His hitting from the right side is more oriented towards a gap to gap line drive approach. A plus for him is the patience at the plate, he only struck out something like 20 times last year in a little over 200 at bats, where his OBP% was over 0.500.
Doolittle is the 6'4 200lb freshman who will be the next great catcher for LSU in due time. Don't expect him to jump out of scene...remember Ross, Scivique, and Papierski all needed time early on to adjust to the position in SEC play. He's got a strong arm and is very swift for the body he has, needs to show more power but again that will come in time.
Plan to see Feduccia see most of the time next year with Doolittle coming into his own during '19 and '20 respectively.
