The series explored so many angles of a story and made you use your imagination.
No shite, because it was a goddamn mess.
It's why Hollywood pays good story-tellers real money - to tell coherent stories with coherent story arcs and believable actions of characters.
Anybody can go "Days of Our Lives" on us - and LOST did that in spades.
I honestly thought the last episode would be "and then I woke up!" high school paper ending (and it kinda was the ending of LOST - it was all a dream!
Lost is the laziest writing of any modern popular show because nothing had to be thought out - they could just make up whatever shite as time went on and never explain anything.
Nothing EVER had to really reconnect to previous premises.
Breaking Bad needed to have a structure, shite needed to be explained...The Wire, etc.
You couldn't just write some Gilligan Island with the Young and the Restless meets the Phantom bullshite.

I believe a lot of people would disagree with this point. The story was very coherent. It may have been fictional but that is pretty much every story told

I get the feeling that you didn't understand the ending.

Anyone that says this about the ending can have their opinion completely disregarded on the show. It's comical at this point.

Which is probably the best thought out premise and executed almost to perfection. However, even BB could get lazy with the storytelling at times, although it trended upwards pretty consistently. The acting, directing and writing was a 1-2-3 punch that a lot of shows can't match. Your GOAT dramas - starting with HBO's The Wire and The Sopranos (20 years ago, essentially) - set the table for all this and are still fine examples of it and GOAT candidates. It's no secret I'm a #TeamShield guy and find the show is a little underrated - partly because being on FX they couldn't go all ham with the language like The Sopranos and The Wire. But, LOST is polarizing in the same way that David Lynch's films are polarizing - and, as I understand it, LOST is:

a goddamn mess
Even though I've backed off Abrams (a little, and Jonathan Nolan as well after Season 1 of West World) - there is too much smoke for there not to be some fire. I've only seen snippets of LOST and it is definitely one of those shows that one cannot just drop into.
