Worked on the main intervention boat that was onsite 4 days after it happened. I have tons of pics and videos of what was going on. You could've almost jumped boat to boat for miles without even getting your feet wet.
They fricked up, and spent a shite ton of money capping it off as fast as they could. I have never and will never see that much money and manpower in one place again in my life.
The local good ole boy shrimpers are the ones who got their come up. Lied for years about income. BP was paying top dollar for them to skim oil. That's why there are so many Vietnamese, and Chinese owned shrimp boats in the gulf now.

What? No. Shrimping doesn't pay shite and there's always been a lot of Vietnamese trawlers. They're annoying AF too because they never answer their radio.
uncle got paid a shite load of money to take a scientist out every day to take a water sample from Timbilair bay on his shrimp boat too.
