OP....something similar happened to my pug one time when we boarded him at the PetHotel at PetSmart. They took him to an animal hospital, gave him Benadryl, and kept him overnight to monitor him to make sure swelling went down and he could breathe. He was fine. We think some bug bit him. I think the main reason they kept him overnight is because he is a pug and with their small smooshed faces...swelling could easily compromise their breathing.
