Routine play really. Immediately tag on a ball in the air and drift up the line if it's shallow in case it falls in.




It was a line drive not a fly ball. The ball was in the air for maybe 3 seconds. If it was a true fly ball I would get your point but this play in particular is a different situation. He did the right thing ball hit in air he went back to bag. At that point once you get third then you judge the distance. This play as soon as he got back to third the ball hit the ground. Usually even if you aren't tagging you will bluff the tag to force a throw anyway so he would still need to be on the bag.

the only person who did anything wrong on this play was the left fielder not attempting a throw. Would have taken a perfect throw to get him and he wasn't square to make the throw but you have to attempt it.
