The army is for the most part is none existent, but if they have senior people flying day to day stuff that speaks volumes.

This is why I didn't even click the link. This entire Assad dropping chemical weapons on citizens looks like black ops. Then a General is the one flying the plane, please...

Their rank system is completely different from anything in the west. There's tons of generals in the Syrian army and they often fight on the front lines with their soldiers. A general in the Syrian army can be a squad leader all the way up to commanding a section of the entire army. It just doesn't mean as much there as it does here.

A good example of this is General Zahhredine (probably butchered his name) who fights on the front lines and has been wounded multiples times.
