And slightly off topic, but this is also why we may never see a NO to BR rail connection. Plan is drawn up, middle of nowhere town/parish doesn't get a station, they bitch and complain enough to either kill the project, or even worse, they get a station that adds 20 minutes to the ride that 23 people use a day.

Logical solution is to have certain trains be express trains that bypass everything in the middle. And a few commuter trains each day that make those stops.
