So in Italy, if you have a bloodline that has never renounced their Italian citizenship, then you are technically a citizen by Italian law. All you have to do is show them you are. I'm happy to go in detail if you want to email me.

By default it gets passed on to my kids, their future kids and so on.

I actually knew nothing about it until I read about it in a WSJ article about Brexit. That's what prompted me to go onto Ancestry

This. Basically if the original immigrant had kids before he naturalized then it gets passed on.
