Not knocking Etling but we need a true QB completion and the best QB starts. I do not want Etling because he is the safe call.

I think that there will be an actual competition, but Etling makes the most sense as of now. He's played SEC ball before and knows what it's like to go in a control a game. LSU doesnt need an all star back there. We just need someone to take care of the ball for us.

From what I was told this weekend, the depth chart was arranged according to seniority. DE is the starter from the 1st day of spring. No one is competing against him. He's taking 60% or more of the snaps. The other guys are splitting the rest. The approach (at least for now) seems to be more about building depth, than creating competition. The depth building approach means that a priority is placed on giving the older guy a closer look, as well building his confidence.

If a younger guy emerges too soon, you run the risk of massive preseason transfers.

Stop it with this shite. LSU needs a playmaker at QB if we want to be in the playoffs. Minus Bama who is loaded at every other position, every QB who has played in the national championship or playoffs since 2013 has been a playmaker for his team.

Plus if Guice gets injured at any point this season, the backup RBs are really going to look like some of Miles's most mediocre rush offenses.

We've had two previous returning starters that didn't make it through (or to) their next season.

Doesn't mean we shouldn't try to put one back there.

I've heard that before. Then we keep getting guys who can't muster more than 200 yards of offense against some serious defenses. Let's hope the era of praying for mediocrity has ended, and the era of mediocrity not being nearly good enough has begun. That goes for whoever wins the starting job. Hopefully that person will be able to manage most games and win a few that we'll need a quarterback to win.
